Did you know? Huey P. Newton and the Black Panther Party once discovered that a local school had a high rate of hit-and-run accidents—not because the kids were reckless, but because there were no streetlights in the area to keep them safe. The city didn’t care. The police didn’t act. So the Panthers took it into their own hands.

Every day, they went out to that intersection and directed traffic themselves—Black men in leather jackets and berets making sure kids could get to and from school without becoming statistics. And they kept doing it until the sight of the Panthers doing what the police wouldn’t embarrassed the system enough that the city finally installed a traffic light.

They didn’t just carry guns—they carried responsibility. That’s community defense. That’s Revolutionary.
