Bucks of America

You learn something new every day…

We have been fighting for this nation’s soul since the very beginning.

The Bucks of America were free and enslaved Black men in Boston who fought for liberty even when liberty did not fight for them. They guarded the city and protected the people during the Revolutionary War.

Their captain, George Middleton, led in both battle and community, helping found one of the first Black mutual aid societies in the nation. The governor of Massachusetts, John Hancock, honored them with a silk flag that still exists today.

That flag is more than a relic. It is proof that Black heroism has always been part of America’s foundation.
